Our Rotary Community & Vocational Committee considers many areas much closer to home working with many organisations to help, support and deliver on more localised projects.
The Rotary Club of East Sutherland is very conscious of the community it represents and the needs of the people within that community.
A LETTER TO THE QUEEN !!!
Plans for a superb day out in Brora on the 2nd June are well in hand, with the Rotary Club led Brora Community Fete Committee up and running, and with many stalls already allocated to local charities and voluntary organisations.
For the first year, of what is hoped will be an annual event, the fete lands on the weekend of the Queens Jubilee Celebrations and that occasion will certainly be firmly imbedded within the array of musical and fun diversions on the day.
In setting up the committee it was soon realised that the organisation required its own identity and with that its own letterhead and stationery and the idea of a competition within the Brora Primary School was put forward.
The Challenge - Design a letterhead which represents the Village and the Fete.
The school children were soon seen hard at work, drawing the iconic features of Brora and it soon became clear that the War Memorial Clock Tower and the Cathie, a flower filled boat on the site of the fete by the river-mouth, were favourites.
Judging was very difficult but the two winners were Murdo Whitfield and Erin Johnstone.
Both children were invited to witness the first letter to be signed and sent, and that was a very important letter to a very important lady, Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth, wishing her a wonderful Jubilee Celebration in June and letting her know that Brora and East Sutherland will be holding a special Fete to mark the occasion.

Brora Mums and Toddlers Trip
A recent Monday proved to be a very happy day for the many Mums and Toddlers from the Brora CALA group who went on a much looked forward trip to Alladale to see a totally different type of wildlife to to the fun exploring and monster hunts they normally embark upon at their play school, and the good news was that the animals decided that the kids were not part of their diet that day!!!
The group had been holding fund raising events all year---raffles, dance parties, cake and candy and all sorts of novel ideas not just to fund this fantastic adventure trip but to raise money for new equipment for their playroom, for an out door playhouse and to help make growing from toddler to confident little people all that bit better for the children and for their Mums and Dads.
The East Sutherland Rotary Club was one of several local organisations that have been impressed by the organisation and its efforts so they like the Thrift Shop and the Brora Gold Club Old Boys (The BOBS) were delighted to be able to put a little money in towards such a good cause
