Membership

Rotarians are members of Rotary clubs. Rotary clubs belong to Rotary International. To become a Rotarian, you must be invited to join a Rotary club by a member of that club.

A qualified candidate for Rotary club membership is an adult of good character and good business, professional, or community reputation. The candidate fits one of the following criteria:

  • Holds or has held an executive position with discretionary authority in any worthy and recognized business or profession
  • Serves or has served as a community leader

Our club is committed to developing membership growth which will provide information, education and motivation to our Club members that will ensure the creation of the right environment, and the commitment by all involved to share the Rotary family vision.

The membership of the Rotary Club of East Sutherland continues to grow and the latest recruit is Jonathan Brett Young who is a very well known member of the Sutherland Community because of his work with the retired Armed Forces and as a Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Jonathan is enthusiastic about his new club and the support Rotary provides across the local community and overseas.

Vice President Graeme McLaughlin had the pleasure of inducting  3 new members into the club--Emma White, John Ford and Byron Kerr all of whom had the honour of having District Governor George Berstan attending specially to welcome them into Rotary the World Over. This takes the club membership to over 30 and rising as there are others waiting in the wings to join what is not just a vibrant and fun organisation but a group of people who are focused on helping others within this community and beyond.

Alistair said " I am particularly pleased to see such a growth in membership because this will enable the club to carry our even more essential local and international charity work while enjoying the fun and the fellowship that is key to the Rotary membership

The 6  new members recruited so far this year along with the 20 plus that we have recuiyted to form the new Rotary Club of Tain will really make a difference to Rotary activity here in the far north of Scotland.

Membership Grows as the Leaves Drop

The festive season got off to a good start for the Rotary Club of East Sutherland when Paddy Murray from Dornoch was inducted into the club, a club which has a further 5 new members ready to join in early January.   This takes the membership to its highest ever level and over the 30 mark and President Alistair Risk reminded everyone that even that number could be exceeded as a number of others have expressed interest in joining a club which not only provides lots of help to local and International people in need but has so much fun in doing so.

Picture shows Paddy receiving his membership documents from President Alistair Risk with senior members Hugh Johnston and Robert Beaton looking on.

The Rotary Club of East Sutherland has around 30 enthusiastic members from all along the coastal strip of the Dornoch Firth and from inland communities such as Lairg and Rogart, even Rosehall so we cover a wide area and we have members from a variety of vocations.
Our membership includes ladies and gentlemen from such employment sectors as:-
Tourism, B & B, Farming, the Church, Architecture, Travel Agents, Transport, Banking, Accounting, Local Government, Social Services/ medical, Printing, Teaching, Photography, Communication and much more

All are committed to enjoying fellowship and to putting something back into a world that has given them so much.

But we have ambitions to increase our membership and to do more, and this year we hope to help establish a new Rotary Club in Tain.

Indeed, in April 2010 we became the proud mother club of Tain and District and were even prouder when President Alistair handed over the chain of office to new President Ken McMorran at the Charter dinner on 4th June.

So if you seek fun, fellowship and a rewarding interest in helping others, please get in touch!!!
